What Clients Have Shared
Ahmad Hafizi
Freight Forwarder, Port Klang
We brought Claiven in to handle a cargo dispute that had been dragging without resolution. Razif understood the bill of lading issue immediately and explained the regulatory position in terms our operations manager could follow. The matter was resolved within the timeline they estimated.

Siew Ling Tan
E-commerce Director, Melaka
Our privacy notices were in poor shape and we knew PDPA compliance was something we needed to address properly. Chee Wei walked us through the gap analysis clearly and delivered documentation that our team actually understands and can maintain. The engagement was about four weeks — within the range they described from the start.

Muhammad Faizal
Franchise Operator, Johor Bahru
I was entering a franchise agreement and wanted someone to review the terms before I signed. Aisyah went through the agreement methodically and pointed out several areas where my obligations were more onerous than I had understood. I was able to go back to the franchisor with specific questions — which was what I needed. A straightforward, worthwhile engagement.

Zuraida Azman
Shipping Company Owner, Melaka
We needed help with vessel registration documentation and some regulatory queries related to port authority requirements. The advice was clear and practically oriented — not just a recitation of the statute. The fact that they are in Melaka made it easy to meet in person when needed.

Lim Kar Mun
Food & Beverage Franchisor, KL
We used Claiven when we were setting up our franchise system. Aisyah prepared the disclosure documents and franchise agreement from scratch. It took about seven weeks, which was slightly longer than the initial estimate, but they explained why the timeline shifted and kept us informed throughout. The quality of the documentation was what mattered most to us, and it was solid.

Rajendran Nair
Logistics Manager, Klang Valley
We had a maritime insurance claim that had stalled with the insurer for several months. Razif reviewed the documentation and identified where our claim letter had been ambiguous. After revising our submission, the matter moved forward. The advice was direct and practically useful — not just a statement of legal principle.

Detailed Client Journeys
How specific matters were approached and what the engagement produced for the client.
Case Study: Cargo Dispute — Melaka Port
The Challenge
A shipping company operating out of Melaka port faced a cargo dispute with a logistics counterparty over liability for damaged goods. The bill of lading terms were ambiguous and the insurers were reluctant to engage until the legal position on liability was clarified.
How We Helped
We reviewed the bill of lading, shipping documents, and correspondence, identified the liability clause in question, and prepared a legal opinion clarifying the applicable position under Malaysian maritime law. This gave the client a basis to negotiate with both the counterparty and the insurer from a clear legal footing.
Outcome
The liability position was established, the insurance claim proceeded, and the dispute with the counterparty was resolved without proceedings. Duration: approximately five weeks from initial instruction to resolution. The client has since engaged Claiven for routine document reviews.
Case Study: PDPA Compliance — Healthcare Services Provider
The Challenge
A healthcare adjacent services provider handling patient appointment data had no formal privacy documentation and was uncertain whether their data handling practices met PDPA requirements. Staff awareness was low and there was no breach response plan in place.
How We Helped
We conducted a gap analysis of their data processing activities, mapped data flows, drafted a privacy notice appropriate to their service type, prepared a data processing register, and developed a breach response protocol. We also provided written staff guidance on handling personal data.
Outcome
The client had a compliant privacy framework in place within six weeks. Documentation was structured to be maintained internally without ongoing legal support for routine matters. The client has since engaged Claiven to review their third-party data processing agreements as their business expanded.
Case Study: Franchise Registration — Food Service Concept
The Challenge
A food service operator wanted to convert their successful single-location business into a franchise model. They had no prior experience with franchise law, were unfamiliar with the Franchise Act 1998 requirements, and needed a complete legal framework before they could offer franchises.
How We Helped
We prepared franchise registration documents for submission to the Franchise Division, drafted the franchise disclosure document covering all required statutory items, prepared a franchise agreement setting out the rights and obligations of both parties, and advised on the registration process and timeline.
Outcome
The franchise was registered within the statutory period. The client had a complete legal framework ready before approaching prospective franchisees. The engagement ran approximately eight weeks. Within twelve months of registration, the client had signed agreements with three franchisees using the documentation Claiven prepared.
